About Us

We are a well-established independent shop in Chiswick specialising in organic ambient products, a wide range of ethnic groceries, chilled and dry foods, and an extensive selection of fresh produce. As we expand our fresh offering, we are looking to introduce a high-quality fish counter and are seeking an experienced, customer-focused Fishmonger to join our team.

Role Overview

The Fishmonger will be responsible for managing our fresh fish section, ensuring the highest standards of product quality, presentation, and food safety. The ideal candidate will have strong seafood knowledge, excellent knife skills, and a passion for delivering outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare, clean, fillet, cut, and portion fresh fish and seafood to customer specifications.
Ensure the fish counter is well-stocked, attractively displayed, and maintained to high hygiene standards.
Advise customers on fish varieties, cooking methods, and recipe ideas.
Manage daily stock rotation, monitor freshness, and minimise waste.
Receive deliveries, check product quality, and maintain accurate records.
Follow all food safety, hygiene, and health regulations.
Collaborate with the management team to develop the fresh fish range.
Contribute to creating a welcoming shop environment and delivering warm, friendly service.

Requirements

Proven experience as a fishmonger (minimum 5 years preferred).
Strong knife skills and knowledge of fish preparation techniques.
Excellent understanding of seafood varieties, seasonality, and quality indicators.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Good communication and customer service skills.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
Food Safety Level 2 (or willingness to obtain).

Desirable

Experience working in a fresh food retailer, fish shop, or market stall.
Knowledge of organic and specialty food products.
Interest in helping grow a new product category within the shop.
