Description
Would consider a swap for some other retro/vintage item from the 50/60/70/80's, eg, radio, radio cassette, television, Hi Fi system, 70's or 80's music centre, 70's or 80's colour television etc. Doesn't matter if it's working or not. Let me know what you've got.
Philco 1950's record player, will swap Read the full description.
Vintage Philco 'High Fidelity' record player.
Dates from 1958.
I spent a considerable amount of time, over 40 hours, restoring this record player last year.
The deck has been cleaned and re greased. The original crystal cartridge had long since died so a new BSR SC7M ceramic cartridge and stylus was fitted.
Various out of tolerance capacitors and resistors within the amplifier were replaced with modern equivalents and a new mains lead and plug fitted.
This was a fairly upmarket record player in its day incorporating a two stage valve amplifier delivering around 7 watts of power to the large internal elliptical speaker. It will play 33, 45 and 78rpm records. It will also play 16rpm records but I've never seen one of those, do they actually exist??
Audio quality is pretty good for something of this age with good volume and good bass from the valve amplifier. That said, don't expect to be blowing the windows out with it and don't expect it to match the quality of modern day sound systems, this thing is 65 years old.
I already have a few other portable record players in my collection and haven't really got room for another so I'm moving this one on.
