PIONEER PL-990 AUTOMATIC TURNTABLE

I usually offer decks a little higher up the turntable food chain than this! However, I make an exception for the Audio Technica LP60 series as a good plug-n-play starter deck. This Pioneer was made in the same factory and uses most of the same parts as the Audio Technica (as I can confirm having had a look at the internals), so whilst not directly comparable it does the record playing bit just the same and has similar features:

* Audio Technica ATN3600 cartridge. (Reincarnated as a 'Carbon' model on Rega turntables - if it's good enough for Rega...!) Looks like a third-party stylus.
* 2-speed (33/45) and 2-size (7"/12")
* Fully automatic operation - with manual cueing and stopping options
* Built in MM pre-amp making connection to any amplifier line input (NOT to a phono input).
* Adjustable pitch control with strobe light (great for compensating for belt wear).
Cosmetically pretty good. Includes a juke-box/large hole single adapter.

This deck is a convenient way to add vinyl to an existing set up that has an “aux” input. With no ability to change the cartridge, adjust the tracking weight or anti-skating it is very much a budget-priced starter turntable.
