VINTAGE FRENCH COPPER CHOCOLATIÈRE CONFISIERE PAN, BOWL, CUL DE POULE, MIXING PAN, BASIN, COU DE POULET, CHICKEN’S BOTTOM - MADE IN FRANCE - 32cm diam 17cm tall 1.7 kg - FRENCH KITCHENALIA - REDUCED!

Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!

Part of our French copper kitchenalia collection, we got this from from a Brocante in Reims, Champagne, and have used it as a decorative display hanging in our kitchen.
It’s a used, professional quality, copper Cul de Poule, Cou de Poulet (or Chicken’s bottom, so named after its rounded base!) that apparently came from the clearance of a local chocolaterie/patisserie.
Used in the making of sweet products they are sometimes used over direct heat for sugaring foods such as sugared almonds, over a Bain Marie or as a mixing basin for whisking eggs for chocolatier or patisserie products etc.
Probably dating to the 1980s and marked MADE IN FRANCE underneath the copper riveted brass loop handle, it’s a sturdy piece with a roll top edge.
Well used and now a little worn and stained but bright, sound and functional as intended, it also makes a great decorative French Kitchenalia display or copper collectible…

In good sound vintage condition with wear and staining but no damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
This was lightly polished when we got it some years ago and has just had a thorough wash for listing - I’m sure this would polish up further if so required.
Crafted from a single piece of copper I think (I can find no seams).
The copper surface is in good, bright, used condition with wear, knocks, scratches, staining/tarnishing but no significant dents or damage - see photos.
NOTE: there is a flattened circular area or dent to the bottom about the size of a 50 pence piece which is presumably from using the pan to mix whilst on a flat surface - see photos.
The interior is clean and bright but has a worn finish and curved staining to one side, again I think from whisking or mixing - see photos.
The upper edge is rolled over what I think is a circular iron frame which is a sound.
The brass loop handle is secure, strong and sound with no movement at the copper riveteted lozenge shaped joint.
Marked MADE IN FRANCE.
