Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!

Part of our French copper kitchenalia collection, we got this from an antique dealer at Chatillon sur Seine, Burgundy.
It’s an antique copper pan that apparently came from the clearance of a local manoir that is now battered with numerous repairs giving it a nice wabi sabi kintsugi type patina (wabi sabi is a traditional Japanese aesthetic philosophy that finds beauty in imperfection, impermanence, incompleteness and overt repair).
Originally a quality hand crafted cooking pan dating to the late 1800s it was probably a special commission piece for the kitchen as part of a much larger batterie de cuisine.
It has a hammered, or martele, finish and rustic bronze handles.
An indication of the value it had to it’s original owners is the fact that they went to the trouble of the numerous repairs visible, including on piece that has been patched up using cramp seams (dovetails), other being holes filled with gold coloured and lead solder.

NOTE: amazingly, despite the repairs, this is still watertight up the the rivets on the handle joints where it leaks through the rivets. That said, I do not guarantee it to continue to be watertight and as such it is being sold as a decorative item only.

Well used, now worn and battered but very sound, it has a really attractive patina…
It also makes a great decorative French Kitchenalia display, planter/ jardiniere, or I’ve recently seen them used as bathroom or kitchen sinks…

In good, sound, antique condition with lots of wear, dents and staining - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
This just had a thorough wash - I’m sure it would polish up well if so required.
The copper has no flex to the sides.
The copper surfaces are in good used condition with lots of visible repairs, knocks, dents, staining, and wear - see photos.
Slightly misshapen with an attractive patina to the hand hammered finish - see photos.

NOTE: there appears to be a piece of metal rattling within the copper indicating it to probably be double skinned. At first I thought it was a rattle from the handles but that isn’t the case and I think there’s a loose piece, probably within the repairs.

The upper edge is thickly rolled and although worn is secure and sound, I think over a circular iron reinforcing ring.
The interior is worn and stained with repairs visible - see photos.
The base is worn but sound.
It stands reasonably well, if slightly wobbly - see photos.
The bronze handles are worn and crooked but strong and sound with no movement at the copper riveted joints.
I can find no maker’s mark.

Measures approximately:
41 cm diameter to the outside edge (the pan is slightly misshapen from the circular),
44 cm long handle to handle,
13 cm tall to the pan edge (slightly crooked so 12-13cm on average),
weighs about 2.5 kg.
