Large Garden Planter. 40 Inches. Antique 1950's HATHERNWARE Bath, Trough, Pond, Ceramic Glazed Stone

For sale is a lovely, vintage 1950's, Hathernware Laboratory trough. It's made of ceramic glazed Stoneware and it's just over 3'6" long.

Vintage 1954 laboratory trough or run-off liquids trough, in totally EXCELLENT condition. It has the very sought after "CORRUGATED FINGERS" on both ends of the top lip, this feature is only found on the very early ceramic lab troughs and sinks, the new troughs are generally made from stainless steel and plastics. This beautiful sink/trough was brought home by my grandfather in 1954 and he's had it ever since. It has a lovely aged patina to it that has taken over 70 years to achieve, it's beautifully weathered and aged (see photos for a better idea of the condition and patina).

This trough would look amazingly stylish in any garden, either as a very unusual and totally stunning planter, for a tree perhaps or large shrub even, a hole could be drilled to allow for easy drainage, if you wanted to use it as a planter.

If you wanted to use it as a fish pond, It is totally watertight and holds water completely, it wouldn't need a drainage hole or overflow because it has the run-off corrugated fingers at the top of each end to take care of the overflow when it rains.
I have cleaned one end of the inside of the trough, so the other 3 sides will clean up easily as well, the brown looking mark around the lower inside walls of the trough are the remains of leaves etc that filled the trough about 6 inches over the last decades.

To my eye, this would look fantastic in a Japanese themed garden, with it's very clean lines etc.
I really don't think you'll see another one of these anytime soon folks.

This trough is really extremely heavy, so due to the size and weight, this item is for collection only, and collection is from the N7 area of North London, very near to Finsbury Park train station and also not far from the arsenal Emirates football stadium. Any time you want to collect it will be fine.
