Description
A hand-coloured 18th-century botanical engraving (mezzotint/line engraving with original hand colour) depicting two Momordica (balsam apple/balsam pear) vines with fruit, tendrils, and pale flowers, plus a Latin/Dutch/French caption identifying the two varieties shown. This is plate N.735 from Weinmann’s Phytanthoza Iconographia — one of the most important 18th-century botanical works, and the first to use colour-printed mezzotints, with plates after Georg Dionysius Ehret and engraved by Seuter, Ridinger, and Haid. Yours is nicely presented in a birds-eye maple frame with a wide mat.
