The Steinway Model B is often referred to as ‘the perfect piano’. At 6′ 11″, this stunning and completely rebuilt to new standard grand piano is an outstanding example of superior quality, versatility and beauty. It's owner, an accomplished Irish singer/composer/player, has carefully looked after this outstanding instrument and has used it for concerts and professional recordings.

1887 Steinway Model B with serial number 63714.

Built in the New York Steinway factory. Purchased and owned by a citizen of New York. Purchased and exported to the United Kingdom by a British Citizen. When this owner passed away his family put it up for auction in Sotheby’s. Purchased at auction in the early 2000’s by Andrew Tynan of Tynan Pianos, Rathmines, Dublin.

Its current owner, Matthew Lalor, purchased it from Andrew Tynan in 2005. In 2015 it was transported from Ireland to Pozan, Poland and rebuilt by Marcin Czerniak (now deceased) in his own factory. It was fitted with a new Steinway Action. Parts fitted include new Steinway strings, pins, pinblock, bridges and bridge pins. The pinblock was mortised into the case to achieve maximum tuning stability and sound resonation. The soundboard was shimmed and restored. The cast iron frame was gilded. Brass was replaced with chrome fittings and trimmings. The legs of the piano were originally turned legs. They were replaced with straight legs that have brass wheels which move freely.

We consider this 1887 Steinway B to be a fine example of a rich, fully bodied instrument, with a balanced even sound and perfect combination of power and sensitivity. We have recently tuned the piano and will do so for its new owner.

This piano is a perfect blend of tradition and modern restoration, making it a stellar addition to any home or professional setting.
