Ownership History: It was owned by a concert pianist who lived in Gospel Oak for several decades. She sold it to us upon her retirement as she was moving. We tuned and restored it so we could play it, but currently 5 keys need repair.
We asked Piano Auctions Ltd to evaluate the piano and they told us that it wasn’t eligible for auction due to limited space. However, they told us it was a beautifulk and historic and extremely well-made instrument, worth about £400-500.
Here is the letter:
Dear ——
Thank you for contacting us and providing details about your upright piano.
This fine old piano was made to the very highest standards at some point in 1888 at a time when Bechstein dominated Northern European markets.
Upon careful assessment, I have determined an auction guide price for your piano, which stands at £400 - £500.
Due to limited auction space and the necessity to establish a minimum requirement, we would find it challenging to accommodate your piano in our upcoming auctions.
In consideration of these factors, I would like to suggest that you explore alternative avenues to sell your piano. Selling privately on platforms such as Gumtree, eBay, or Facebook Marketplace may provide an opportunity for you to achieve a favourable price.
If you have any further questions or if there is anything else we can assist you with, please feel free to let us know.
We wish you the best in selling your upright piano.
Kind regards,
Ed Kennedy
