Description:
A top-quality tongued and grooved (T&G) wooden outdoor kennel is designed to offer maximum durability, weather protection, and comfort for a dog or small to medium pet. This premium style of construction is widely considered the gold standard for outdoor pet housing. **(Beware of cheap imitation kennels made using poor materials such as plastic or solid board)**
Interlocking T&G Panels: Unlike cheaper overlap kennels, top-quality designs use 12mm thick, interlocking timber boards. The tongue of one board fits tightly into the groove of the next, creating a smooth, flush finish. This flat surface prevents water from pooling and makes it incredibly difficult for wind to penetrate. It is also scalloped at the top of each board to help guide water away from the join of the tongue and groove.
Pressure Treatment (Tanalised Timber): Top-tier wood is pressure-treated with preservatives forced deep into the timber grain. This provides long-lasting protection against rot, fungal decay, and wood-boring insects. This also offers a 15 year anti-rot guarantee.
Raised Floor: The kennel stands on treated timber floor runners as part of the floor design. Raising the floor off the cold, damp ground creates an insulating air pocket and stops rising ground moisture from rotting the kennel floor. The floor is also tongued and grooved pressure treated timber so again offer better protection and longevity often cheaper kennels use solid board or manufactured OSB that will deteriorate far quicker.
