Spencer Clarke Group have partnered with a well-regarded London Borough Council who are looking to appoint a Head of Legal to offer strategic guidance and lead on complex legal matters.

The successful candidate will be a trusted advisor to senior officers and Members, leading a high-performing team that provides clear, pragmatic, and solution-driven legal advice on complex matters affecting the Council's People services.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the People Division within Legal Services, ensuring efficient, high-quality delivery of legal support in Social Care (Adults and Children), Education, and Litigation.

Provide strategic direction, professional supervision, and development opportunities to a team of experienced lawyers and legal officers.

Oversee complex and high-profile cases, ensuring sound risk management and adherence to statutory and procedural frameworks.

About You

Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEX entitled to practice in England and Wales.

Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a large legal team, managing resources effectively and maintaining high standards of service.

Financial and performance management experience, with a record of achieving targets and ensuring value for money.
