The Momentum U2 2.5kW electric outboard is ultra portable being made up of 3 lightweight components:

- 9kg 2.5kW motor with 2.5 x the power of similar electric outboards
- 8kg 1.4kWh battery - the higher capacity gives you more range
- 2kg transom bracket - no need to tighten the usually fiddly clamps

SUMMARY

The extra power means this motor can cope with all sorts of weather and water conditions for you on your tender, fishing boat, small workboat and also as an auxiliary for larger ribs and sail boats.

It is also proving popular with sailboat racers as it is so light and simple to take on and off - use it to get out of the harbour, set sail then simply slide the battery off the motor, lift the motor off the bracket and stow both away. Leaving the transom bracket in place means there is nothing to fiddle with when you need to deploy it!

The throttle has a simple eco mode limiting the power to 600w (approximately quarter power) which is more than is needed most of the time anyway. However, if there are more people and kit on your boat or you are going against wind and tide, simply depress the button on the tiller to access full power.

The same button enables you to twist the throttle the other way to access reverse - it really is incredibly simple and intuitive to use.

The ultra bright, high contrast and clear display can show your speed in knots, mph, kph or will show you the time remaining in the battery.

The motor simply slots into a self locking dovetail joint on the transom bracket from inside the boat - no leaning out and over the back so it is much safer and feels much better!

Lock the motor in horizontal, then without having the battery over the water, rest it on the motor chassis and simply slide until it locks in place.

Now release the transom bracket lock to lower the motor down to the desired angle - there are no tricky pins to slide in and out, just a lovely simple lever to release - attach the kill cord, twist the throttle and head off.

There are no temperamental starting problems, no awkward rotating the motor for reverse, just simple and intuitive allowing you to enjoy your boating adventures more than ever.

HOW DO I COMPARE IT WITH PETROL OUTBOARDS?

Unfortunately many electric outboard manufacturers have overstated the performance of their electric outboards claiming that a 1kW motor is the equivalent of 3-4hp which on the water is clearly not true.

They do this as they compare the power using a static bollard pull test - ie tie the tender to a quay and see how many kg of thrust it produces. Electric outboard motors develop full torque immediately unlike petrol outboards so are incredibly responsive at low revs. This gives them a high pulling power but they tend to run out of puff at higher speeds.

This unfortunately means that many people have been disappointed when comparing a 1kW electric outboard directly with their previous petrol outboards.

The Momentum U2 is designed to address these issues being a real world replacement for your small petrol outboard engine, capable of powering much larger boats at displacement speeds and achieving planing speeds on light tenders.
