Ultra-Rare 1930s British Art Deco 5-Piece Master Bedroom Suite – Complete Burr Walnut & Bakelite Set

Description

An exceptional, museum-grade, and highly rare five-piece British Art Deco master bedroom suite dating from the 1930s. The whole suite was purchased from the manager of the Beatles Brian Epstein parents who owned an antique shop in Liverpool. This is an incredibly scarce opportunity to acquire a completely intact, mathematically matched bedroom ensemble from the interwar era. While individual wardrobes or altered dressing tables frequently appear on the market, virtually no complete 5-piece sets of this high caliber remain together in the UK today.

This luxury suite is crafted in beautifully figured burr walnut veneers, showcasing the striking, dramatic swirling grain patterns and book-matched panel work that defined the premium furniture of the period. Every piece features a classic Art Deco stepped-top silhouette and retains its original, highly desirable hardware: long, cast-metal vertical handles accented with distinct reddish-brown circular Bakelite finials.

The entire suite is in good vintage condition, showing honest age-appropriate wear but free from major structural damage, missing veneer chunks, or warping. The finish retains a lovely, deep honey-toned gloss throughout.
The Comprehensive 5-Piece Suite Includes:

• Large Triple Wardrobe: A spectacular three-door wardrobe featuring a stepped cornice design and deep side profiles. Provides massive hanging and storage capacity. ◦ Dimensions: H 192cm x W 167cm x D 56cm

• Gentleman’s Double Compactum Wardrobe: A matching, slightly smaller two-door wardrobe. The interior features a premium luxury organizational system, showcasing twin top cubbies, original glass-fronted pull-out linen drawers, a deep lower shoe bin, and its original period brass category labels still beautifully intact. ◦ Dimensions: H 168cm x W 106cm x D 56cm

• Iconic Vanity Dressing Table: A classic "cloud" style dressing table featuring a massive, frameless circular mirror. Designed with a dropped central glass shelf and flanked by twin pedestals, each containing three smooth-running drawers with original handles. ◦ Dimensions: H 192cm x W 167cm x D 56cm

• Matching Vanity Chair: The original, highly collectible Art Deco dressing chair. Features a unique curved, low-slung burr walnut backrest panel that perfectly complements the geometry of the dressing table, finished with its vintage sage-green velvet upholstery. ◦ Dimensions: H 70cm x W 47cm x D 42cm

• Matching Bedside Cabinet / Pot Cupboard: Features an open upper cubby shelf for books and a lower storage cupboard door showcasing exceptional burr patterning, finished with the original matching Bakelite and metal drop handle. ◦ Dimensions: H 72cm x W 37cm x D 38cm

Condition Report:
• Good, solid, and honest vintage condition throughout.
• Structural integrity is excellent; all doors align well, hinges are solid, and drawers slide smoothly.
• The burr walnut veneers catch the light beautifully. The top surfaces show minor surface dust, light clouding, and negligible superficial scuffs consistent with age, which would easily clean up with a light wax polish.
• The large circular dressing mirror backing is stable with minimal, character-rich foxing/silvering loss. The chair fabric is intact with minor vintage wear but perfectly usable as-is.
