Description

Reluctantly selling my moped due to health problems. This is a 1965 Raleigh Runabout RM6 which I have restored from a non-running wreck that hadn’t run for over 40 years. It is now in running order, but still needs a bit more attention (tick over is temperamental).
It has a 50cc two stroke engine running on a petrol/two stroke oil mix which gives good fuel economy.
I have a V5C in my name and it is registered with DVLA as a historical vehicle; therefore, qualifies for free Road Tax and is exempt the need for an MOT.
I have tried to carry out a sympathetic restoration in an attempt to retain the original character and age of the bike. It is now 60 years old and is in no way a ‘concours’ example, but is sound and will be usable with a bit more TLC. Over the last year or so I have spent hundreds of pounds on parts and listed below are the bits that have been replaced.
Front Forks, Head Tube Bearings, Drive Belt, Pedal Chain & Tensioner Wheel, Drive Chain, Rear Tyre & Inner Tube, Rear Wheel Chain Adjusters, Both Brake Cables, Choke Cable, De-compressor Cable, Pedals, Engine Head & Barrel Gaskets, Points & Condensor, Spark Plug, HT Lead & Cap, Fuel Hose, Rear Wheel Axle Spindle & Bearings, Front Brake Blocks, Rear Brake Shoes re-lined, Carburettor Jet & Float Chamber Gasket, Saddle.
The bike was completely stripped down and the frame has been rubbed down and rust treated with ‘Kurust’ rust converter and re-painted with enamel paint. The whole bike has been re-wired and a functioning horn button fitted (the original horn had no button to operate it). Both front and rear lights are in working order and the rear number plate has been re-furbished.
I am including with the moped copies of the original Raleigh workshop manual & parts list, the owners riding and maintenance handbook and some spare parts (see photos).
These bikes never had a speedo fitted when they were manufactured, so mileage is unknown and you have no idea how fast you are travelling … 25 mph is probably the max.
The moped will need to be collected from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk and payment is cash on collection. Please message me if you would like to view.
