Description

For sale is my as new unregistered Ducati M1000 based chopper motorcycle.

I built this bike from a brand new 2004 Monster 20 years ago, and the bike has been in storage at my dad's ever since. It has 20 miles on the clock. It has never even been washed.

It was the second bike I built with the exact same geometry, other than the first one had lower handlebars. The first version I rode on trips all over Europe, including one trip 2 up (with a passenger). It's a super easy and comfortable bike to ride. Light weight, compared to modern bikes, and compared to certain other choppers. Goes and stops well. Handles great - plenty of ground clearance. The extended forks actually work smoother than stock suspension. Easy to ride and live with. Just like a standard Monster. Everything works as it should.

The last few pictures are of the first bike, not the one that's for sale.

The frame was tacked up on a jig and then professionally TIG welded. Oversized tube was used for the replacement lattice. You will not break this frame.

Shortly after finishing the bike I moved to the USA. I had crated the bike and intended to export it to America. Unfortunately I discovered that importing a vehicle that was not made specifically for the American market is almost impossible. Google 'Jerry Seinfield's Porsche 959'. It's a wild read.

So the bike ended up stored at my dad's place.

I have tried to UK register the bike from stateside and have been unable to. All I have is the bike and a VIN number. The bike was purchased from Ducati Leeds, and they were unable to help. It may well be that the bike needs to be registered with a Q plate, but I do not know what's involved with that, or if it's even possible. I do not have the time or energy to register the motorcycle and if you are interested in buying the bike, you should make your own inquiries/do your own research.

I am in the UK for a few weeks and have decided to sell the bike and free up space in my Dad's garage. I changed the cam belts, changed the oil, bought a new battery, topped up the tyres, put some petrol in it and it fired straight up. I went for a little ride and everything works and feels like new. I will probably change the brake and clutch fluid this week. The tyres look new, but they are 20 years old, so depending on your worldview, you may want to replace them before going on any long trips at high speeds.

It has Termignoni silencers fitted to a modified (upswept) mid-pipe. They sound great. Not too loud, but a good deep sound. I have the stock silencers also, which fit in the same upswept way, and are included. The forward controls give a more relaxed, comfortable ride, with more leg room. The pillion pegs are lower and more forward also. The bike is all day comfortable to ride. I have the front mudguard that is painted in the same pearl white with red and green stripes - some of the photo's have it fitted. I like the look without. If I had managed to import the bike to the USA I would have had spoke wheels made with a larger diameter front, and gone to a single front disc. Just an idea you may want to consider.

I have all the books that came with the bike - spare keys, including the red special one, the electronic code card, just like a new bike.

The air/oiled cooled twin spark 1000cc Ducati motor is one of the best. Super smooth, lots of torque and power, high top gear, super easy to work on, reliable (I'm not kidding) up to high mileages, if you keep on top of valve checks. A lightweight tank.

I love talking about my bike, so any genuine enquiries are welcome. Please come over and take a look. No test rides, but I will ride the bike up and down so you can see it go. If you are the type who thinks they need to be a hard-ass when shopping for stuff, don't call. I will consider offers IN PERSON only at this stage. If you read this far, well done! Thanks for your interest and have a nice day.
