Large Vintage Signed Frozen Winter Lake Landscape Oil Painting

Description

Large Vintage Signed Frozen Winter Lake Landscape Oil Painting

Brief Description:

This is a beautifully atmospheric large vintage 20th-century original oil painting on canvas, depicting a tranquil winter landscape beneath a softly glowing sunset sky.

The composition centres around a rustic waterside cabin or boathouse, nestled beneath a group of tall, frost-covered trees and surrounded by deep snow. Across the partially frozen lake, several small figures can be seen in the distance, introducing a gentle sense of life and scale to the otherwise peaceful setting.

The artist has used an attractive and restrained palette of soft greens, pale blues, creams, whites and muted pinks, with the setting sun casting delicate reflections across the water. The contrast between the dark wooden building, snow-covered banks and luminous winter sky creates a particularly pleasing and balanced composition.

The work is painted with confident, expressive brushwork, with subtle areas of texture used particularly effectively throughout the trees and snowy foreground.

Signed “Percy” to the lower left-hand corner.

The painting is presented within a substantial decorative frame combining dark moulded outer sections with gilt detailing and a pale fabric-lined inner border, giving the work a smart and traditional finish.
