Description
A framed colourful map of Cornwall, from John Speed's "Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine", published in 1611.
Frame size: 63 cm by 50 cm. Glazed both front and back, with further detail about Cornwall in the early 17th century on the back.
One of the most famous and decorative of all British county maps, English cartographer John Speed relied on the previous work of John Norden (1548-c.1625) as the source for this map.
An original was sold in 2019 for £1,785 by Bonhams, London.
