Ska / Rocksteady / Early Reggae

Anyone interested in original ska, rocksteady and early reggae? I'm not quite sure in what capacity. I'm a middle-aged American white lady in Glasgow and playing this music by myself in my own little insular vacuum. I don't know many folk here in Glasgow, despite being here for 16 years.

First off it would be nice just meeting other people appreciating this music. After that, I'm not sure. Jamming would be nice, but depending on how it goes maybe playing out or doing a regular meet-up or residency somewhere. St. Lukes or McChuills would be convenient if they would have us. I am in between jobs and have tons of time now, but don't think that will always be the case. So I'm not sure about touring the world and all of that... unless by some sheer luck we were unbelievably awesome.

I played in lots of ska, rocksteady and reggae bands years ago. I love and appreciate all of the sub-genres and waves of ska, but am not into certain things at all, I'm afraid. I'm not really into doing ska punk, though I do like some of that stuff. I'm not really into doing 2 Tone covers either - though 2 Tone is what started it all for me back in the 80's. I'm not really into or knowledgeable about reggae after the early 70's, unless it's UB40 or Burning Spear and I don't really want to play that kind of reggae. What I really want to do is music like: The Steady 45's (Los Angeles), The Prizefighters (Minneapolis), The Frightnrs (Brooklyn), Loving Paupers (Baltimore). If you've never heard of any of them, those are more modern bands playing in a sometimes very soulful and traditional style and with respect for original Jamaican music.

I myself have a bit of an eccentric personal project called Rocksteady TNT. It's a bit all over the place, sometimes it's traditional and sometimes it's outright blasphemy, so I'm not saying I want to make music like that with other people, but feel free to check it out. I play lots of different things to varying skill or no skill, but am happiest and most proficient probably with playing bass. I wouldn't mind switching up with people on guitar or keys or whatever as long as I got to play bass sometimes. I know that the majority of people who love this music will be into playing bass as well. Or if you already have a band and need a sub or stick guitarist... feel free to get in touch.
