This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Motorcycle Sale at Shuttleworth 2026 on Sunday the 19th of April, Shuttleworth, Old Warden Park, Beds, SG18 9EP . , DMW (Dawson’s Motor Works) was a small British motorcycle maker founded by Leslie Dawson in 1940 and based near Wolverhampton,The company produced lightweight bikes through the 1950s and 1960s, often using Villiers two-stroke engines and distinctive DMW components like their own forks and frames. They were known for trials, motocross and road bikes before ceasing production in 1971, with around 15,000 bikes built,Much thought was given to the styling of the ‘Cortina’, a luxurious lightweight machine, powered by the new 225c.c. Villiers 1H engine,It had a 'P'-type frame, made from square section tubing, and pressed steel panels with internal compartments for the battery and toolkit,Motorcycle Magazine concluded that the Cortina has the 'handiness of a lightweight and sturdiness of construction usually associated with a heavier machine' in a copy from February 1955,This example dates from 1955 and was purchased by our vendor in July 2022,Finished in Sky Blue with a dark red seat, it presents as a nicely restored example with clean engine, cycle parts and brightwork throughout and in good cosmetic order overall,Standard apart from an electronic ignition conversion for improved reliability and ease of use,Running when purchased but not used recently so will require light recommissioning,Supplied with its UK V5C, a VMCC Dating Certificate confirming 1955 manufacture, supporting correspondence from the British Two Stroke Club and additional paperwork and literature.,
