A stunning pair of vintage hand-painted ceramic table lamps, beautifully decorated in the highly decorative “Royal Satsuma” style and complemented by wonderfully ornate cream fabric shades.
The urn-shaped ceramic bases feature an exquisite array of hand-painted floral sprays, butterflies and traditional Oriental-inspired decoration, with rich gilded detailing adding to their luxurious appearance.
The lamps are mid-to-late 20th-century Chinese export decorative pieces, made in the “Royal Satsuma” style for the Western market. They should not be confused with antique Japanese Satsuma ware; rather, they are charming Chinese interpretations inspired by the traditional Satsuma aesthetic.
Both bases bear the distinctive “MADE IN CHINA / 中国制造 / SATSUMA” marking, characteristic of late 20th-century Chinese decorative export production.
The lamps are paired with particularly attractive Victorian-style “iceberg” double-scallop fabric shades, finished with elegant gold braid, fringe and decorative corner tassels. The two-tiered scalloped silhouette gives the shades a wonderfully romantic and theatrical appearance.
Together, the lamps make a fabulous decorative statement and would look particularly beautiful on bedside tables, console tables, a sideboard, dressing table or occasional tables.
