Original late nineteenth century watercolour depicting haystooks at Oystermouth, which is in 'The Mumbles', Swansea, South Wales. The view looks across to Swansea Bay, with Oystermouth Castle sketched in, on the right.

The artist who painted this picture is Frederick James Kerr (1853 - 1936). He studied at Swansea Art School and, later, The Royal College of Art.

The watercolour came from a collection belonging to the artist's family. Other works were signed and dated 1888 - 1895. ( There may be a signature on this work,under the mount).

This professionally mounted and framed watercolour is by a local artist, Kerr, who painted a large collection of watercolours of locations around Swansea, South Wales.

The movement of the brush strokes is invigorating, and the detail of farm hands gathering the corn, captures an authentic moment from the 1890s.
