VINTAGE FRENCH FISHING SHOP SIGN, RUSTED IRON HANGING PÊCHE SIGN, ANGLING SIGN, 87cm long - 1960s

Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!

We got this from a vide maison in Saint-Quentin in the Aisne region and have been using it as a decorative kitchen display.
It is one of two fishing signs that were found by the owner in the cellar to his house when he moved in around 30 years ago (the other has sold).
Apparently the house had been an Angling Shop in the late 1960s and they had hung outside - hence the rusting.
Hand wrought and welded with the word PÊCHE and a fishing hook end it is now worn and rusted but still strong and sound.
Chain hanging or freestanding it is charming and usable as is or could be rubbed down, waxed, or painted if so required.

In good vintage condition with rust, wear, and knocks consistent with age and use - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
It is rusted and stains the hands with rust when handled however I’ve decided to leave it to the buyer to decide if it needs any other finish.
Consists of a metal base bar with the word PÊCHE welded in place, some scrollwork to either side and a curved end to resemble a hook.
The whole is sound, stable and sturdy with rusting and a little flaking but no serious corrosion or through perforation.
The chain is sound and easily strong enough to support the weight of the sign.
It hangs reasonably well if a little crookedly and needs some adjustment to straighten it, the end loops fit over the scrolls.
It also works as a freestanding piece.
I can find no maker’s mark.
