1928 Trojan Tourer
- Rare surviving example of vintage motoring
- Mid-engined, with electric starting
Founded in the run up to the First World War, Leslie Hounsfield’s engineering company Trojan Limited started in a small workshop in Clapham, South London, before shortly after moving to larger premises in Croydon. After the war vehicle development continued but it was general engineering which kept the company going. Then in 1922 Trojan did a deal with Leyland Ltd. for Leyland to manufacture and market what was now called the Trojan Utility car.
The larger bodied Three Door Tourer came in 1925, with greater rear passenger space plus a single rear door on the pavement side. 1928 saw the introduction of a more upmarket canvas bodied saloon car, the Achilles with a roll backed roof version the Apollo. In the late 1920s Trojan ended its relationship with Leyland and started full manufacturing of its vehicles at their Purley Way factory. In 1929 the new Trojan RE was introduced, the engine being located in a box at the back. The Trojan RE had not been a success, so in 1935 Trojan showed an entirely new car; the Mastra with a six cylinder engine in the back. But only 3 prototypes were made, Trojan later abandoned car manufacture and concentrated on vans.
Originally supplied by F.V. & H.G. Gravely of Wisborough Green in Sussex, and one of a handful of remaining survivors, this bright blue 1928 Trojan Tourer is said by our vendor to be in good mechanical and fair cosmetic condition.
Offered with a UK V5c document, what a fun vintage motorcar to take along to local summer shows and events!
