Description

1978 MGB GT – Excellent example – Tahiti Blue – Overdrive – Power Steering – Recent Rolling Road Tune (March 2026) – Restored - 12v battery - 15" Minilite wheels

Beautiful 1978 MGB GT finished in its original Tahiti Blue, fitted with factory overdrive and MG Owners’ Club power steering conversion. A very well-sorted, usable example with extensive history, restoration photos, and recent mechanical work.

One of the key strengths of this example is its structural condition. Unlike many MGB GTs currently on the market, this car is notably solid underneath with no known rot in the usual problem areas. The sills, floors, and structural sections present very well and reflect the quality of the earlier restoration work. It has clearly benefitted from long-term care, dry storage, and continued use rather than sitting unused, and feels tight and well-preserved for its age.

The car underwent a major restoration in the 1990s including:

* New sills
* New wings
* Bare-metal respray in Tahiti Blue
* Engine rebuild (low mileage since)

The bodywork remains very clean and solid throughout and regularly receives compliments.

Mechanically the car is excellent and has very recently benefited from:

* Full service including coolant flush and valve clearance adjustment (March 2026)
* Both SU HIF4 carburettors rebuilt. Uprated needles installed by Aldon Automotive
* Aldon Automotive rolling-road tune (£570, March 2026)
* New distributor vacuum unit
* New HT leads

Drives exactly as an MGB GT should and has been used regularly for long-distance trips across the UK. Overdrive works perfectly, and the power steering makes the car genuinely enjoyable in modern traffic.

Included with the sale:

* Two keys
* Extensive history file
* Restoration photos
* Previous owner correspondence
* Spare thermostat
* Thermostat housing
* Full set of radiator hoses

Dry stored, MOT exempt, and ready to enjoy immediately.

Reluctant sale due to inheriting a family members MG and limited garage space.

I am confident the first serious buyer to view and drive the car will appreciate how well it presents and performs. A truly clean and ready to use MGB. History & Provenance

This MGB GT has a well-documented history supported by a substantial file of invoices, photographs, and previous ownership correspondence.

The car underwent a major restoration in the 1990s, which included new sills, new wings, and a bare-metal respray in its original Tahiti Blue. During this period, the engine was also rebuilt, with the car covering relatively low mileage since.

More recently, the vehicle has been maintained and improved with regular use rather than stored away. It has been dry-stored throughout current ownership and has been used for UK touring, demonstrating its reliability as a usable classic.

Key recent work includes a professional rolling-road tune by Aldon Automotive (March 2026), a full service, and ongoing maintenance to keep the car mechanically sound and road-ready.

The car was purchased from RMC Classics in September 2025 and has been enjoyed since, including long-distance driving without issue.

Overall, it is a well-maintained, enthusiast-owned example with strong provenance, extensive documentation, and a clear history of restoration and continued care.
