Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2025 on Saturday the 8th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. , Introduced in 1979 to celebrate 50 years of MG production at Abingdon, the Limited Edition (LE) models were the last built there before the factory's closure in October 1980. This 1981 MG B GT LE marks the final chapter of the MG B’s production line at Abingdon, one of just 520 GT Limited Edition examples built alongside 480 LE Roadsters. Designed as a farewell tribute, the GT LE was distinguished by Pewter Metallic paint, silver-grey interior trim, alloy wheels, and special LE badging throughout. Under the bonnet sits the standard 1.8-litre B-Series inline-four with twin SU carburettors, producing circa 97bhp and 105lb/ft torque, coupled to a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive. For enthusiasts, this car represents both historical significance and a rare opportunity to own one of the very last MG B GTs.Offered here is a 1981 MG B GT LE, presented in outstanding order throughout. The paintwork is immaculate, and the interior shows only minimal signs of use. According to its Heritage Certificate, UFK 999X was built in September 1980 and dispatched on 24th November of that year. It was a home-market, right-hand drive example, finished in Pewter Metallic with Silver Grey interior trim, as per the LE-specification, and supplied new by Wednesbury Motor Services of the West Midlands.Over four decades since its delivery, this special edition MG B still turns heads. It shows just over 68,000 miles and remains beautifully presented, thanks in part to a mechanical and cosmetic refresh carried out by respected marque specialist Tim Kelly. Its quality has been recognised within the MG community, having been displayed at the MG Car Club’s Kimber House HQ and awarded Pride of Ownership at MG Live Concours 2018 at Silverstone.Accompanying the car is a comprehensive history file, including the Heritage Certificate, MG B book pack with service book and handbook, V5C registration document, numerous MOT Certificates, and a wealth of invoices for servicing and maintenance over the years. This is a truly charming British classic, and as one of just 580 Limited Edition GTs, it represents the final chapter of MG B production. Pin-sharp, well sorted, and presented to a very high standard, this delightful LE is ready to be enjoyed and cherished by its next custodian.
