DESCRIPTION

TAG Heuer is part of the LVMH group. Avant-grade and sophisticated, the TAG Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 17 RS is a great example of high-end watchmaking tradition. Its GT racing inspired design and unique rotating system make it an object of desire for connoisseurs. The TAG Heuer rotating system replaces hands with elegant dashboard style discs, displaying minutes at 9 o’clock and seconds at 3 o’clock. With a mechanical chronograph accurate to 1/10th of a second.
I’ve owed this genuine TAG Heuer watch since new and it comes with the inner and outer boxes and papers. The watch is no longer a production model and becoming harder to source. The stainless-steel bracelet can easily replaced with either a leather or rubber one.
The machinery inside a watch that keeps things ticking is called the movement or a calibre. A synonym of size, the word ‘calibre’, first used as a watchmaking term in 1715, originally referred to the build of a watch movement - the layout, dimensions, shape and size of the wheels, barrels, bridges and so on. Today the word is a substitute for movement, the complete mechanism with the mainspring, escape wheel, bridges, gear train, and other components, including the rotor in automatic watches. Calibres are either mechanical or quartz-based. While the latter are powered mostly by a battery, the former can either be manual winding, or self-wound by an oscillating mass or rotor.

HISTORY

The launch of the Grand Carrera series in 2007 marked a crucial turning point for TAG Heuer as they had to overcome the difficult task of reaching out to a new segment of older buyers, many of whom had never owner a watch by the brand before. TAG Heuer met this challenge with an undaunted spirit and went on to position the Grand Carrera as one of the world’s leading high-end watch collections. The Grand Carrera range is a premium design series combining many bestselling features to give watches that are extensive infunctionality and outstanding in aesthetics.

DESIGN

Signature aesthetic elements comprise a hand applied logo, applied hour markers, rotating system disc, extensive Cotes de Genève finishing, double Sapphire case back and a double-crown. Each model in the series is available in a stainless-steel bracelet, rubber strap or a crocodile leather strap. The standout design element of this series is the Rotating System (RS) disc used in all the models. The discs replace the traditional sub-dials. These discs have been elaborately decorated with semi-circular polished frames and impart the collection with a unique touch.

FEATURES

The Grand Carrera is the only one of TAG Heuer’s watches that is not available as a quartz version. All the models are automatic and their automatic movements have been C.O.S.C. (Contrôle Officiel Suisse desChronomètres) certified to guarantee precision and durability.
