Role Overview

We are seeking a strategic and hands–on Head of Technical to lead the end–to–end technical function across a fast–paced business. This role will be responsible for ensuring product quality, safety, compliance, and innovation across an extensive range of own–label and branded products.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Strategy & Leadership

Define and execute the technical strategy aligned with business goals and growth plans Lead, mentor, and develop a high–performing technical team Act as the senior technical authority across the organisation Quality & Compliance

Ensure all products meet UK, EU, and international regulatory requirements Oversee product safety, quality assurance, and risk management frameworks Maintain robust quality management systems and audit processes Supplier & Product Management

Approve and manage suppliers, ensuring adherence to technical and ethical standards Drive continuous improvement in supplier performance and product quality Oversee product specifications, testing, and validation processes Cross–Functional Collaboration

Partner with Commercial, NPD, and Supply Chain teams to deliver innovation Support speed–to–market while maintaining compliance and quality Influence senior stakeholders on technical risk and opportunity Crisis & Risk Management

Lead responses to product recalls, quality incidents, or regulatory challenges Implement proactive risk mitigation strategies

Candidate

Extensive experience in a senior technical or quality leadership role Retailer experience Proven leadership experience managing and scaling technical teams Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive change Experience working with global suppliers and complex supply chains desirable Strong commercial awareness alongside technical expertise
