Fitter / Fabricator Fitter

A leading defence engineering manufacturer with over a century of innovation is looking for a Fitter / Fabricator Fitter to join its North West engineering centre. The business designs and builds specialist military equipment and has a long-standing reputation for delivering high‑quality engineered solutions to armed forces customers worldwide.​

About the role

You will work as a Fabricator Fitter, manufacturing equipment for the defence sector using jigs and fixtures to produce components in line with engineering drawings and work instructions. Training will be provided to gain welding qualifications in accordance with EN ISO 15614‑1.​

Key duties include:

* Complying with Environmental, Health and Safety policies and identifying hazards before starting work.​

* Tack welding using MIG / MAG processes on armour plate.​

* Reporting equipment faults or unusual occurrences via approved maintenance procedures.​

* Using drawings and work instructions to complete tasks, carrying out visual / NDT checks to confirm conformity to specification.​

* Using hand tools and appropriate measuring instruments.​

* Completing European welder approval tests on a regular basis.​

* Ensuring your own safety and that of colleagues by following all applicable safety requirements.​

* Booking hours and activities accurately on the company MRP system (SAP or similar).​

What we’re looking for

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

* At least 12 months’ welding / fabrication experience, working autonomously on welded steel assemblies in a heavy manufacturing or fabrication environment within a quality‑focused organisation (e.g. operating to DIN 2303, BS EN 1090‑1, BS EN ISO 3834‑1, BS EN ISO 9001).​

* Experience with MIG as a primary process (MAG and TIG desirable), including HSLA steels and special applications to achieve quality to BS EN ISO 5817.​

* Strong understanding of welding and fabrication of complex assemblies, including equipment, materials behaviour (e.g. HICC), resultant properties and residual stress aspects.​

* Ability to read and interpret specifications, BS EN ISO 5817, technical drawings, work instructions and WPS / NDT methods.​

* Good awareness of Quality, Safety and Environmental systems and processes.​
