TRANSPORT & DISTRIBUTION MANAGER

THE ROLE
The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective planning, coordination, and management of day-to-day transport and distribution activities, ensuring that people, vehicles, and operational resources are used efficiently, safely, and in accordance with company and legal requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage and coordinate daily transport and distribution operations.
• Plan delivery schedules, routes and allocation of vehicles and drivers.
• Coordinate the efficient use of vehicles, drivers and other operational resources.
• Monitor delivery performance, service levels and operational KPIs.
• Supervise and support drivers and operational staff.
• Ensure deliveries are completed safely, efficiently and within required timeframes.
• Monitor vehicle availability and coordinate servicing, maintenance and repairs.
• Maintain accurate transport, vehicle and operational records.
• Ensure compliance with relevant transport, road safety, health and safety and company requirements.
• Identify operational problems and implement practical solutions.
• Investigate delivery delays, service failures, customer complaints and operational incidents.
• Work with customers and business partners to resolve operational issues.
• Monitor transport costs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
• Prepare operational reports and provide management information to company directors.
• Support recruitment, induction, training and performance management of operational staff.
• Develop and implement procedures to improve transport and distribution performance.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
• Previous experience in a supervisory or management role involving operational coordination.
• Experience of planning and organising people, resources or services.
• Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage competing operational priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to supervise, support and motivate employees.
• Ability to monitor performance and implement operational improvements.
• Good understanding of health and safety and operational compliance.
• Competent IT and administrative skills.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
• Transport, courier, delivery, distribution or logistics operations.
• Fleet or vehicle coordination.
• Route planning and driver scheduling.
• Delivery performance and customer service management.
• Relevant management, business, or operational qualification.
