Beautiful, substantial John Lewis solid wood laundry hamper with a hinged slatted lid and removable cream canvas-style laundry liner.

NB: these baskets sell for ca £145 new

This is a really solid, heavy and well-made piece rather than a lightweight laundry basket. The attractive lattice/slatted construction provides ventilation, while the hinged wooden lid keeps laundry neatly concealed.

The removable fabric liner attaches securely to the inside using Velcro, which is all working very well. It also has a drawstring top. The fabric retaining straps which support the lid when open are present and working well, as are the hinges.

Condition

Very good used condition overall, with general age-related marks, small scratches and variations to the finish consistent with normal use. Please see the photographs, which form part of the condition description.

The removable liner has been cleaned, but there are some black/grey marks on the inside of the fabric which have not come out with cleaning. I don’t know what caused them, so have photographed them clearly. They are internal and do not affect the use of the liner or hamper in any way.

There is also a darker mark to the wood on the inside of the hamper, again shown in the photographs.

Structurally it feels extremely solid and substantial. The lid, hinges, Velcro attachments and fabric lid-support straps are all working very well.

Only selling because its generous size is simply a little too large for our space.
