We asked Dex-Renovation for a free quote to do a new extension to our property. The price they gave was well above what we could afford. I didn't want them to suffer for doing the work of preparing the quote for nothing so I offered to pay them a nominal amount for compiling the quote and they then offered to try and find an alternative solution. They couldn't come up with an alternative at a price and quality that we could accept. The latest contact from them was to send us an invoice for the free quote of £195. Obviously 'free' has a different meaning to them from us.
