Description

This Lot will be sold at auction at Symphony of Spring; Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 7th March. 1,200 dry miles since nut and bolt restorationRestored by the late Toby Smith's (Jamiroquai co-founder and songwriter) bespoke E-Type restoration companyPerfect for European touringThere is little doubt that the Jaguar E-Type revolutionised the motoring world and sent the press into raptures. The Museum of Modern Art in New York recognised the significance of the Jaguar E-Type's design in 1996 by adding a blue Series I Roadster to its permanent design collection, one of only two cars to receive that distinction. This three-dimensional beauty was complemented by a fabulous double-overhead cam, six-cylinder engine that powered the lithe, taut creature comfortably over the 100mph mark. Jaguar was not content to rest on its laurels and continued to develop the E-Type with the first substantial improvements arriving in 1964: a newly enlarged 4.2 litre powerplant increasing torque and improving driveability. 1968 models featured open headlights (without glass covers), a wraparound rear bumper, re-positioned and larger front indicators and taillights below the bumpers, as well as better cooling aided by an enlarged mouth and twin electric fans together with uprated brakes; these are all hallmarks of Series II cars. The engine is easily identified visually by the change from smooth polished cam covers to a more industrial ribbed appearance. The interior and dashboard were also redesigned with the toggle switches being substituted for new rocker switches. The dashboard switches also lost their symmetrical layout. This immaculate example of the Series II Jaguar E-Type, presented in British Racing Green coachwork over cream leather trim with black mohair hood benefitted from a complete nut and bolt restoration in 2015. Our owner required the car to be without fault and in concourse order for his home in the South of France, thus this car was imported from California in 2015 as part of a small side business created by the keyboard player and co-songwriter of the successful band Jamiroquai which supplied renovated E-Types to the top end of the UK market. Amongst other cars, they supplied the car used by Harry and Megan to get to their wedding dinner in Windsor Park and Matty Healy of the 1975 also enjoys one of his complete rebuild E-Types amongst many other celebrities. As you can see from the pictures it remains in near concourse condition, fitted with a modern stereo, blemish free bodywork and the vendor states you can really see every nut and bolt still shines bright. This is not a huge surprise as the car had been in the dry warm climate of the South of France and only covered 1,200 dry miles since the full restoration and has always stored in a climate-controlled cocoon when not in use. Having been recently been imported from the owner's South of France residence where annual Technical Inspections (French MoT equivalent) were carried out. On arrival back in the UK it was put through a successful MoT test, giving the new owner peace of mind - though obviously this car is exempt from this requirement due to its age. This vehicle is ready for an amazing European tour with its new owner and being left hand drive, it will feel right at home. Consigned by Mathew Priddy
