Description

This Lot will be sold at auction at Ascot Racecourse; on Saturday 12th September.\n\nIn current ownership for 40 years\nDry stored for circa 20 years\nHighly original car ready for its next chapter\nThere can be few more remarkable long-term ownership stories than that of this 1973 Jaguar E-Type. Our vendor first became acquainted with the car in 1986, when, remarkably, he managed to acquire this then 13-year-old E-Type as his company car. Three years later, when he left the company, he managed to keep the Jaguar, beginning what has now become an extraordinary 37-year period of personal ownership.\n\nFinished in classic Red over a Black interior and powered by Jaguar’s magnificent 5.3 litre V12, this 2+2 is equipped with the automatic transmission, arguably the ideal gearbox with which to enjoy the effortless torque and refinement of the V12 engine. Importantly, the car appears to remain notably original, retaining the character and presentation of a genuine, long-term owned E-Type rather than one that has been extensively modified or restored.\n\nThe Jaguar has spent a considerable period in dry storage, believed to have been as long as 20 years. It was briefly started in 2016, although some electrical issues were encountered at the time and the car subsequently remained in storage for another decade. It is now offered as a non-runner and will require recommissioning before returning to the road.\n\nThe fine layer of dust accumulated across the bodywork perhaps tells its own story, giving the impression of a car that has been peacefully stored in a dry barn rather than left to deteriorate in a damp environment. Beneath it sits an increasingly rare opportunity: a remarkably original V12 E-Type with an extraordinary 40-year connection to the same owner.\n\nOur vendor will undoubtedly miss the Jaguar enormously, having owned it for so long that it has become very much part of the family. However, he feels that the time has come for a new custodian to take over and give this special E-Type the attention it deserves. Offered without reserve, this is an exciting opportunity to acquire a genuine, long-term owned V12 E-Type and return a much-loved piece of family history to the road. Consigned by Fraser Smith
