Description
The Jaguar E-Type DLB 334C is a remarkable example of British automotive history, distinguished by its association with Sir John Whitmore, a celebrated racing driver and sports psychologist. This 1965 Series 1 4.2 Fixed Head Coupé was originally delivered in Opalescent Golden Sand with a red leather interior. It has since been resprayed in Carmen Red, enhancing its visual appeal. Sir John Whitmore purchased the car new from Henlys Ltd of London in January 1965. His motorsport achievements include winning the British Saloon Car Championship in 1961 and the European Touring Car Championship in 1965. He also competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans five times between 1959 and 1966. After retiring from racing, Whitmore became a pioneer in sports psychology, authoring the influential book "Coaching for Performance" . In 2012, the E-Type underwent significant restoration work, including a top-end engine rebuild, new headlining, exhaust, and trim repairs, totaling approximately £12,000. The car also received a comprehensive glass-out repaint and new chrome trim, restoring it to a high standard . To improve driving performance, the E-Type was fitted with power steering, Spax adjustable shock absorbers, and Coopercraft disc brakes. The original components are included with the car, allowing for a return to its factory specifications if desired . The cars history file is extensive, featuring the original delivery inspection sheet, operating and maintenance handbook, and a Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirming Sir John Whitmore as the first owner . At the Silverstone Auctions September Sale in 2018, the E-Type was estimated to sell for £90,000 to £110,000. While the final bid was not disclosed, the car remains a highly sought-after classic, combining exceptional provenance with meticulous restoration . For enthusiasts and collectors, DLB 334C represents an opportunity to own a piece of motorsport history, beautifully restored and ready to be enjoyed..Power Assisted Steering, CD Player, Chrome Wire Wheels, 4 Speed Manual, 4.2 Litre Mark 1 FH Coupe, Chrome Wire Wheels, Seating Capacity - Two Seats, Leather Interior
