Description

A totally correct and exceptionally original example of a rare UK market, RHD drophead, supplied new in 1955 by The Woodcote Motor Co, Epsom. Sound condition, cosmetically mature and appealing, retaining original, mellowed tan leather interior, and of nicely understated specification with disc wheels and spats. The paint shows its age in a quite charming way, the chrome work is very good to excellent, and the overall appearance is seductively appealing. One owner from 1974 to 2015, and one since. Just 6,000 odd miles covered during those fifty years! Recent work has included a new stainless exhaust, new clutch, complete re-wire and a good deal more besides. Comes with a Jaguar heritage certificate confirming original specification and colour scheme, and a file of invoices from recent years showing parts expenditure, etc. Driving very nicely, sounding great, and fun to whizz around in! Very few survive in such undisturbed condition! We also have a fresher, restored version, also on our website. Part exchanges happily considered.

Chassis No. 807260 Reg No. YPC 555

Snippets: The Name is Bond - G. Bond It is very difficult to work out who the first owner of YPC 555 was as we have two gentlemen who fit the bill - father & son. perhaps someone out there can help us to work out which one it is.Lt. Gerald Aubrey Bond (1898/1967) served as sharpshooter during WWI with the London Regiment and in 1917 he was awarded the Military Cross (group of 3) for his heroic deeds at Passchendaele. The citation states the MC was for ""conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on several occasions when bringing up rations and material to the front line on pack animals, over very difficult country and under almost continuous shell fire."" It continued that ""in spite of casualties to animals and a stampede caused by shells, he never failed to deliver the whole of the stores."" Lt Bond's son - Graham Forbes Bond (died 1983) was an active member of the British Motor Racing Marshals Club. His wife Georgina Crossman was the daughter of Peter Crossman of the Watney Mann Brewing chain who in 1962 bought the Tetworth Hall estate. According to local legend the Hall was requisitioned during WWII and it housed Italian & German PoWs. Was there a direct link with the secret operation going on at Tempsford Airfield? Local gossip had it that there must have been spies living there as sometimes lights were seen in the upstairs windows!!!The Bond link with spies lives on…………….

About us:
The Real Car Company was established in 1987 by Ray Arnold & Ian Johnstone. It was a hobby that 'Got out of hand'. Our interest in cars of the type that we now sell goes back to our childhoods, and ownership back to the 1970's. Gradually more cars started passing through our hands, and by 1986 we had decided to make a full time occupation of buying and selling the cars that we love.

We started with a single car (all we could afford) which we sold quickly, and before we knew it we had 4 or 5 on our hands! This was alongside another business that we were involved in at the time. In the Spring of 1988 we gave up the other business, (exhaust systems), rented part of the premises that we still operate from now, and went full time.

We had a good start in the boom years of the late eighties, which set us up well enough for us to ride the storm of recession in the years that followed. As the years went on the number of cars going through our hands increased gradually, we built up a workforce, and we now carry a stock of around 40 to 50 vehicles and there are nine of us here. In 1999 we were awarded 'International Classic Car Dealer of the Year' by Classic Cars Magazine. The market for 'our' kind of cars is nicely stable, generally prices are creeping upwards all the time, and we feel that investing in a car - or cars - of the type that we sell is generally a great place to put your money. Don't do it just for investment, but you can get a great deal of pleasure from these vehicles, prices are - in our opinion - unlikely to drop, and you can't drive a share certificate! Some prices in the last three or four years have moved up considerably, and these cases have shown a tremendous return on investment.

Over the last fifteen years or so we have brought home several hundred cars from the USA, and we are always looking for more. If you know of a Rolls-Royce or Bentley anywhere in the world, in absolutely any condition, please let us know. Distance no object, commissions happily paid. We always particularly enjoy the 'barn finds'.
