1947 Jaguar Mark IV 2.5 Litre Saloon

- From The Brian Ford Collection

Jaguar met the immediate post-war market in 1945 with its trusty 1.5-, 2.5- and 3.5-litre saloons dating back to 1935 and began a concentrated effort to cultivate the burgeoning American market. Only six-cylinder models were officially sent to America, and these early offerings, retrospectively known as the “Mark IV,” quickly gained a following, especially when they were first offered with left-hand drive during 1947. The 125 hp, 3.5-litre OHV six-cylinder engine offered ample power and torque for American tastes, while the large Lucas P100 headlights and upright grille of the Mark IV were welcome reminders of a more elegant, coachbuilt past. After the introduction of the updated and mildly reengineered Mark V at the 1948 London Motor Show, the earlier cars retroactively became commonly known as "Mark IV" models.
An earlier 1947 example finished in Old English White with red trim, the more recent history of this 2.5 Litre Mark IV dates back to the 1990s in the West Midlands, later to be acquired by wedding hire firm AA Executive cars in Kent before being sold to Mr. Ford in 2012. In the accompanying history file are maintenance notes from 2012 to 2017, MoTs and receipts dating back to the early 1990, current V5c and previous bill of sale. On the button and running nicely on test, this represents all in all a tidy and usable example of a most classic Jaguar saloon, with a small amount of room for minor cosmetic improvements to the paintwork and trim.
