Automation Test Engineer

* Market Rates (c£400 to £425 per day)

The Opportunity:

We are seeking an automation-focused End-to-End Test Engineer to support a major public sector digital transformation programme.

You will be responsible for validating complete business processes across user interfaces, REST APIs and integrated systems, contributing to testing throughout Agile delivery and ensuring changes are thoroughly tested ahead of release.

You will also help ensure that connected applications work reliably across complete user journeys, combining strong automation skills with a thorough approach to functional testing.

Skills and Experience:

* Strong test automation experience using Playwright, Cypress and/or Python.

* Experience testing REST APIs, JSON/XML payloads and system integrations.

* Familiarity with Postman, Bruno, REST Assured and Swagger/OpenAPI.

* Experience using Jira and Xray for test management and defect tracking.

* Strong Agile testing skills, analytical ability and effective communication with developers and Product Owners.

Desirable: AWS application testing, CloudWatch log analysis and SQL-based backend data validation.

Role and Responsibilities:

* Build and maintain reusable automated UI, API and integration tests within CI/CD pipelines.

* Perform functional, end-to-end, regression and exploratory testing.

* Identify test scenarios, risks and coverage requirements early in the delivery lifecycle.

* Manage defects, retesting and requirements traceability using Jira and Xray.

* Produce clear test evidence, results and outstanding risk assessments to support release decisions.

N.B. Candidates will have or be willing to undergo a basic level of security clearance prior to starting the role (5-7 days lead time)
