A secondary school in Chalfont St Peter is looking to appoint a dependable Catering Assistant to join its kitchen team. This is a permanent, term-time-only position, offering the opportunity to support the daily catering operation and help provide food for students and staff.

The successful candidate will help with basic food preparation, serving meals, maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen, and ensuring food outlets are well stocked. The school is looking for someone who takes pride in their work, works well as part of a team and can remain organised during busy service periods.

Catering Assistant – The Role

As a Catering Assistant, you will support the kitchen team with food preparation, serving and general cleaning duties to ensure the smooth running of the school's catering facilities.

Your responsibilities will include:

Preparing basic cold foods, including salads and sandwiches

Using a microwave to heat food products as required

Serving students and staff at counters and tills

Washing up dishes, cutlery and kitchen equipment

Cleaning kitchen and café areas, including floors, tables, worktops, fridges and freezers

Removing rubbish and waste from kitchen and food service areas

Restocking food outlets and vending machines

Receiving and putting away kitchen deliveries

Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, safety and cleanliness

Supporting occasional evening or holiday work when required

The school is looking for someone who is reliable, trustworthy and able to work efficiently in a busy environment. Candidates should have basic food preparation skills, good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.

A good general education, including GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or equivalent, is required, alongside a relevant food hygiene or culinary qualification, or evidence of recent training.
