MODEL SUMMARY.

Very little to say about this one, other than it is an original, unmodified, untouched example of an early Honda VTR1000 SP-1 in Winning Red.

UK supplied by franchised Honda dealers Damerells Motorcycles of Cornwall, and registered April 2000, this is one of the earliest SP1s and designated a ‘Y’ model

The original owner lived in Plymouth and retained it for 25 years and 8 months until December 2025. It was then passed on to his brother, also based in the west country, and now to us from him

With the family knowing Damerells quite well, the bike had a certain amount of recommissioning by their mechanic, in particular to the fuel system, and runs quite beautifully without issue

With just 1600 miles from new, along with such excellent ownership provenance, ensure that this bike presents a very rare opportunity for someone

Everything is present, including the original service book + all original manuals, original bill of sale, original owner’s warranty card, original security documents, and all keys (including number tag) The original dealer number plate is still fitted

Of course. there is minimal service history to speak of, as this bike has essentially been stored away all it’s life. A new MOT will be provided at point of sale, and this will be only the second one the bike has had, the first being in October 2012 when it had covered essentially the same mileage as it has now. Damerells performed the MOT in October 2012, and serviced the bike at the same time which is documented. They had also completed the first service many years previously

The tyres have plenty of tread, but are old, and so depending upon the new owner’s plans for the bike may need to be replaced

Totally standard, unmodified bike down to every last detail, hand built by Honda, and with peerless build quality and engineering. Just fabulous

The SP-1 is a significant model in Honda’s motorsport history, being developed solely to take on the might of the big Ducati twins in the late ’90s, early 2000s which totally dominated World Superbike racing. With the rules favouring twins over the (V) 4-cylinder bikes with regard to capacity allowance, Honda felt that they had no choice but to design and build the SP-1 V-Twin HRC race bike. It proved to be the right decision, and with Colin Edwards aboard, the HRC built SP-1 took the World Superbike Championship title in it’s first competitive year, that being 2000.

This particular bike is a true collectors’ machine. Far too good to be bought for general use. It may well now go on to form part of a collection, or to be used sparingly for high days and holidays.

Whilst there may be plenty of SP-1s to choose from, very few will match this one in terms of mileage, provenance, originality and condition.

Sargents of Sussex is run by Damon Sargent. A lifelong enthusiast, motor cars were instilled in his blood from a long family background of motor and mechanical engineers. Now in it's thirty second year the business continues to run with an enthusiasm and integrity that is higher than ever, with according specialist knowledge of the stock. We pride ourselves on a 'traditional values' approach to our customers and will always make every effort to resolve any issues, should they arise. Our key market is sports bikes, but we have a significant interest in stocking the ever more popular 'naked street bikes' as well as mainstream sports tourers and commuters, and the more niche market supermoto and enduros, as well as the odd classic. Against any of our sales bikes, we welcome cars or other bikes in part exchange against them. The Sargent family have been involved in the motor trade for a great many years now. The great grandfather of Damon Sargent, Henry James Sargent, began trading, in East Grinstead, in the early 1920's and built a successful business, Sargents of East Grinstead Ltd., which remained for 60 years until finally closed in the early 1980's. We are proud to follow in the family tradition.

Based in East Sussex between Battle and Rye, we are surprisingly accessible being just 5 minutes from the A21, and a little under 1 hour south of M25 Junction 5 for customers travelling from the motorway network.
