This 2002 Honda VTR1000 SP1 is a very good example of one of the most important Honda superbikes of its era with 21240 miles on the clock and 9 recorded service stamps

The SP1 was developed as a homologation model to take Honda into battle against Ducati in the World Superbike Championship and the result was a very different machine from the four cylinder superbikes Honda was better known for at the time

Finished in the iconic red and black Honda racing colours the SP1 still looks purposeful more than 20 years after it was introduced and has become a very desirable modern classic

Power comes from the 999cc fuel injected 90 degree V twin engine which delivers plenty of torque and has a completely different character from the inline four cylinder superbikes of the same period

Importantly this example still retains its original factory exhausts which is particularly nice to see as many SP1 models were modified with aftermarket systems over the years

The bike has had 10 owners and comes with a strong service history with 9 service stamps recorded in the book showing regular maintenance throughout its life

As a genuine homologation model the SP1 was built with fully adjustable suspension powerful twin front disc brakes and race focused chassis geometry giving it a very different feel from a conventional road focused sports bike
