Description
This is an excellent photocopy of a 'Last Friday' tournament magazine that was issued on Friday 1st July 1955 - the day of the Gentlemen's Singles Final of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships during which Tony Trabert (USA) defeated Kurt Nielsen (Denmark) 6–3, 7–5, 6–1. Jaroslav Drobný (Egypt) was the defending champion but lost in the quarterfinals to Tony Trabert.
In the same tournament Louise Brough (USA) defeated Beverly Baker Fleitz (USA) 7–5, 8–6 to win the Ladies' Singles title.
This magazine details the results for all 5 rounds and the semi-finals for Gentlemen's and Ladies' Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
Relax and read about life as it was almost 70 years ago. Advertisements for the new Hillman Califonian (a snip at £640!), Robinsons Lemon Barley Water, Ovaltine, Lillywhites, Three Nuns Cigarettes and Lyons Swiss Rolls will bring back memories. Richard Hearne and Frankie Vaughan were starring at the Empress Hall in Fulham and there is a mention of their show.
There are over 30 A4 pages of material included in this tournament magazine with absorbing detailed articles about Wimbledon Memories, New Zealand player Tony Wilding and Great Wimbledon Finals in years prior to 1955.
All pages are good quality photocopies, and from a smoke and pet free home.
We are located in Trowse near Norwich, just a few mins drive from County Hall and the football ground, and 5 mins drive from the Southern Bypass.
