STELLA ST240U radio (Harrods) mid-century 50s / 60s for restoration / display
Islington, London
£30
1 of 12
Description
This model ST240U was made (by Philips I believe) and sold in the 60s but with a hint of the 50s in appearance.
A plate on the back shows that it was retailed by 'Harrods' .
Wavebands - VHF, MW, LW
Dimensions - H x 28 / W x 42 / D x 18 cm
It is being sold as Spares or Repair or as a purely decorative / display item, shop or TV/film prop. It works but would need to be checked for electrical safety by a qualified electrician before use.
A prospective buyer will be able to see and hear if it works to their satisfaction. We will remove the plug as an electrical safety precaution before it is taken away
It is is in good condition for its age with some marks / scratches to the polished wood case.
The following information is to provide a clue as to what a qualified electrician ( in addition to checking it for electrical safety) would need do to restore the radio for use :
-the front valve lights up
-MW band work with Radio 5 live loud and clear. We've found a few other stations (Absolute Radio, Lbc Sport etc ) but would it would probably receive more with an external aerial).
-the volume and tone controls work well and don't grate and crackle when operated.
-the tuning needle moves smoothly from end to end and the waveband switches operate cleanly.
(A label inside the back cover states ' Royalty has been paid on this apparatus pursuant to a licence agreement with the grantors of the broadcast sound receiver licence known as A7S Authorising the use of certain British and Eireann letters patent.')
It can be viewed and tested (at your own risk)
We will consider reasonable offers
Cash on collection in person only, please. V near Finsbury Park station
