SCALE MODEL Salford City Transport 1940s Leyland PD1
Warrington, Cheshire
£16
Description
Like its neighbouring local authorities, Salford Corporation needed to update or replace vehicles worn out by the end of the second world war. A batch of Leyland PD1s, with Leyland bodywork, were delivered in the late 1940s and drove new life into the city’s transport along with the adopted title SALFORD CITY TRANSPORT.
Although the city’s fleet was largely without adverts and smartly turned out and dignified as a result, some advertising did appear in the last few years of the transport department’s existence before it was incorporated into SELNEC in 1969.
This Leyland PD1 epitomises the dignified Salford City Transport livery which is in stark contrast to the computer generated colours of the likes of Stagecoach today.
It’s still in its unopened box. See photos of a specimen.
