SCALE MODEL COACH 1952 NORTH WESTERN LEYLAND ROYAL TIGER
Warrington, Cheshire
£18
Description
These coaches were the first underfloor engined vehicles and the heaviest the North Western Road Car Company Ltd, had ever owned (including double-deckers) until the 1960s.Their fleet of Leyland Royal Tigers had stylish bodywork also by Leyland Motors.
They were described, by one professional assessor, as ‘substantial and sumptuous’ with a distinctive styling of their time and the interior was comfortable and well finished.
Throughout their lives, the fleet of ten vehicles underwent many changes in livery, often as experiments or to make them appealing to passengers, especially during holiday periods.
In 1963, they were withdrawn from service and some were sold to the Londonderry and Lough Swilly Company which operated in parts of County Londonderry and County Donegal in Northern
Ireland and the Republic of Ireland respectively.
This model is to the standard 1:76mm scale and has never been removed from its sealed display case (see pictures of a specimen).
