SCALE MODEL BUS 1926 Stockport Corporation 1926 LEYLAND LION
Warrington, Cheshire
£33
Description
In 1926, the Corporation Tramways Department as it was then called, had more trams than buses: so the departmental title was appropriate. However, as their tracked vehicles neared their metaphorical end of the line, the term “Transport” came into usage.
As buses enabled passenger transport to places where expensive track was not laid, it became obvious that the future lay with the motorbus and, in 1926, the Corporation purchased a fleet of Leyland Lion vehicles with Leyland bodywork which, at the time, were handsome, comfortable and popular with operators and their passengers nationwide.
This was also at a time when joint working with other operators were beginning to be developed and, for a short time, one of the Corporation’s routes even travelled as far as to Bury, although this was a short-lived experiment.
The fleet of Leyland Lions had modifications to Stockport’s bodywork order which specified double doors to speed up passenger entry and exit at the time.
This well detailed model has never been out of its display case and the photographs are of a specimen.
It is a well sought after model and is on the internet, in prime condition like this one, for the astonishing price of £63 plus postage, although used condition models will be cheaper.
The model is for sale at the more realistic price of £33 plus packaging and RECEIPTED proof of posting
just £3.69
