Antique Style Japanese Netsuke Okimono Old Man Child Figurine Faux Ivory Carved
Streatham Common, London
£55
Email address verified
Description
Miniature Figurine vintage Netsuke-style Okimono, a small carved figurine, often mistaken for Netsuke (which are traditionally toggles for inro).
It features a smiling elder, possibly a fisherman or sage, with a long beard, holding a woven basket in one hand and a staff or cane in the other. He is accompanied by a smaller figure, a child or apprentice.
The carving is detailed, including cloud and wave motifs on the robes of the elder.
The piece has a creamy, off-white colour, consistent with bovine bone, resin, or an early plastic material (often referred to as 'faux ivory' or 'vegetal ivory' in the market).
It would make an excellent addition to a collection of Asian art, small carvings, or curios.
Elder (Fisherman/Sage) with a Child, Staff, and Basket.
Material: Likely Resin, Bovine Bone, or Vegetal Ivory (Faux Ivory/Eco-Ivory).
Style/Origin: Japanese or Chinese Export Art style.
Condition: Excellent vintage/antique condition with a pleasing patina.
Property left after the passing of my father.
