Support Worker – Children and Young People (Residential Care)

About the Role

Brook Street is recruiting Support Workers – Children and Young People to join a dedicated and supportive team within a residential care setting. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people who have experienced trauma, loss, or instability.

Six month's care experience is essential for this role. You will play a vital part in supporting the physical, emotional, and social needs of children and young people, working collaboratively with colleagues, families, and external professionals. The role also includes transporting children and young people to school, appointments, and activities.

Key Responsibilities

Provide day–to–day care in line with individual care plans

Create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment

Support education, recreation, and personal development

Implement behaviour management and therapeutic approaches

Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people

Maintain accurate records and documentation

Participate in team meetings, reflective practice, and ongoing training

Work a flexible rota, including evenings, weekends, and sleep–in shifts

Essential Requirements

Right to work in the UK

Ability to pass enhanced DBS and safeguarding checks

Ability to work shift patterns

Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure

Reliable, flexible, and committed to child–centred care

Physically able to meet the demands of the role

Previous experience supporting children, young people, or families

Desirable

Experience or understanding of residential childcare

NVQ Level 3 Children and Young People / Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare

Recognised social work qualification

Ability to work effectively with families and external agencies
