Description

Social Worker Children in Care / Care Leavers

South Gloucestershire Council

Badminton Road, Yate

Up to GBP41 per hour (Umbrella)

Contract until end of July 2026

South Gloucestershire Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join its Children in Care / Care Leavers Service, covering the remainder of a maternity contract. This role is based at Badminton Road, Yate, with flexibility to meet service demands. Pay rate for this role is paid up to GBP41 per hour Umbrella company. This is a full time position 37 hours Monday to Friday. Hybrid working is offered.

The Children in Care Service operates as a one-service model and includes a range of sub-team specialisms. Social workers are allocated across a diverse caseload, including Children in Care, Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC), Early Permanence, and Care Leavers.

While the successful candidate will be primarily weighted towards one specialism in line with their skills and service need, the service strongly promotes a one-service approach. This provides opportunities to broaden experience and develop skills across the wider service, with flexibility to support other areas when required.

The service has a strong and supportive culture, giving practitioners the time, freedom and encouragement to explore new and innovative ways of working. The council is therefore seeking a social worker who is motivated, creative and committed to delivering high-quality, child-centred practice that achieves the best possible outcomes for children and young people.

As a case-holding social worker, the role will involve:

Managing a varied caseload

Undertaking regular statutory visits and assessments

Gaining and incorporating the views, wishes and feelings of children and young people into practice

Travelling as required, as some children and young people are placed outside the local area
