Associate Scientist, Synthetic Chemistry

Proclinical is working alongside a growing biopharmaceutical organisation is seeking an Associate Scientist to join its expanding synthetic chemistry and drug discovery team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early–career synthetic chemist, organic chemist or chemistry graduate to gain industry experience supporting the discovery of novel small–molecule medicines. Previous medicinal chemistry experience is not essential.

Location: Cambridge, UK

Sector: Pharmaceutical Drug Discovery Small Molecule Research

Working Pattern: Laboratory–based (5 days per week)

Contract: 12 Months

Responsibilities

Synthesise and purify small–molecule compounds on milligram–to–gram scaleSupport synthetic route design and optimisationUse organic synthesis, chromatography and preparative HPLC techniquesAnalyse and interpret NMR, LC–MS and HPLC dataTroubleshoot synthetic, purification and analytical challengesMaintain accurate experimental recordsPresent results and collaborate with multidisciplinary scientistsSupport safe and effective laboratory operations

Requirements

BSc or MSc in chemistry, organic chemistry, synthetic chemistry or a related disciplinePractical synthetic chemistry experience gained through employment, an industrial placement, internship or academic research projectKnowledge of organic synthesis and compound purificationFamiliarity with NMR, LC–MS, HPLC or chromatographyStrong attention to detail, communication and teamwork skills

This role offers the opportunity to develop hands–on experience in synthetic organic chemistry, pharmaceutical R&D and small–molecule drug discovery within a collaborative scientific environment.
