Responsibilities of this role:

The core duty is to assess whether a deprivation of liberty is occurring or is likely to occur, and to determine if it is necessary and proportionate. BIAs must integrate their knowledge of the MCA to understand if the person lacks the capacity to make the relevant decision. A primary focus is to decide if the proposed deprivation of liberty is in the person's best interests. This involves meeting the person being assessed, reviewing their needs, wishes, and strengths, and consulting with relevant people such as family members and other professionals. The role requires a deep understanding and integration of the legal framework surrounding the MCA and DoLS. BIAs must synthesize complex information to make professional, independent, and ethical decisions based on evidence and differing views. They are responsible for producing detailed reports that document their findings, assessments, and recommendations. BIAs make recommendations to reduce the need for deprivation of liberty or to lessen its impact on the individual. Keeping detailed and accurate records of their assessments and decisions is a crucial aspect of the role. Requirements of this role:

Must be a Qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England.Must have a Social Work qualification (Diploma in social work, social work degree or equivalent)Must have minimum of 3 years Post Qualifying experience working as a social workerBenefits of working through Reed, include:
